Honor Blackman doing Judo video

The video below is of Honor Blackman (Bond Girl in GoldFinger) doing some Judo and being interviewed. I had known she had done Judo, but this is the first time I've seen actual footage, enjoy.

Karate bigger than Judo... on Twitter at least.

Karate - Blue, Judo - Red.

This image from the interesting website shows that the word "Karate" is used a heck of a lot more than "Judo". Is this an indicator that Karate is bigger than Judo? Or that Karateka are more technology literate than Judoka? Perhaps it shows that Karate is more popular with geeks than Judo? Maybe Just that Karate is bigger in the USA where Twitter ( ) is popular?

World Judo Masters 2008 Training - Week 31/48.

So, as hinted to in my last report and you'll have been able to pick up from my twitter posts ( ) this week went pretty well.

Monday, 4 mile run.
Tuesday, Judo in WInchester.
Wednesday, another 4 mile run.
Thursday, Judo in Gosport.
Friday, rest day.
Saturday, 8 Miles.
Sunday, rest.

All the runs felt comfortable while the paces were respectable.
Judo was okay although I didn't feel too energetic, especially on Thursday where I was really pretty knackered before I started. Training and work and avaoiding the colds floating around my home were taking there toll.

I read a post recently talking about how important it is to exercise on a Monday. Now with my training I think that might be a good idea.

Given my previous posts about crashing, I have been looking at "the plan" and ensuring that I have relatively short cycles (3 weeks, rather than the more usual 6 weeks). The aim being to ensure I have lots of variety and change.

Next week is the last week of my quite long Endurance cycle and I shall then be moving onto strength. My strength programme is going to be primarily body wieght exercises. I have a thought to rejoin the gym and get back to my lunchtime sessions, but it might have to wait till after the first small strength cycle.

I have now booked the flights to Brussels and our little team is taking shape. I am trying to book Hotels and get the paperwork all done prior to getting into the hard work of finding sponsors and working out how our team can help them.

Anyway... till next time!

Hojō-undō - "Supplementary Exercices

Joseverson over on has just posted another great article, as always.

His latest post is about the Japanese terms for conditioning training, fascinating and useful(?)

This, Makiage-kigu looks like a classic old Judo training technique, which is useful to develop grip strength stamina.

For those of you who are not familiar with the blog by Joseverson, you really should spend some time browsing it. The blog is basically about Japanese language but the words are really good to know for Judoka and the images are fantastic also.

One question for Joseverson though, what would you classify Running/Jogging when done in a supplementary training context?

Planet Judo Update

Here is a quick update to what is happening over on I would appreciate your feedback on recent additions.

PlanetJudo now has 50 feeds, from the USA, Europe and even New Zealand. Recent additions are the BBC's Judo news site, Fickr photos tagged Judo and finally YouTube Judo videos.
I would be interested in your opinion as to how good it is to have these in the feed. Flickr and Youtube are the busiest feeds and dominate the site, do they dominate too much? Also, there are quite a few photos and videos that make it into the feed from them that are not really Judo related I notice. Are they a plus or a minus?

The BBC feed is a new find and one that will only get busier this year with Beijing in the summer. I am still looking for more feeds, so please let me know if you find some I don't have. Soon I may be able to add more from as there has been a discussion there about turning on the RSS feeds.

If you have not already, please visit the site ( ) and subscribe to the "feed" ( ) so you can get the updates direct to your feedreader, browser or even by email. There is also a "HISTORY" page at which is worth looking at as it summarises everything that the feed has had on it by day.

As always, email me lw <at> with any updates, comments, etc.
